HEALTH AND WELLNESS

SPECIAL NOTICE:
As you know, the ADRC's Health and Wellness Program's goal is to support health and wellness as people grow older through evidence-based programs that promote disease prevention and self-management. So, it is in keeping with our prevention focus and out of caution and concern for the well-being of ADRC leaders and participants, that we have made the decision to CANCEL ALL CLASSES until 'safer at home' restrictions have been lifted and it's determined it is safe and appropriate to have group meetings again.

We are working hard at contacting all participants and rescheduling classes – so please come back for updated schedules.

If you have immediate questions or concerns, please contact Nancy Krueger at 920-740-9572

Helping you stay active and healthy is important to us. It’s one way we can help you maintain your independence and live the most healthy life. We offer a variety of health and wellness programs that are for anyone, regardless of age or ability.

Prevent Falls

Unintentional falls are a threat to the lives, independence and health of older adults.  Falls are not an inevitable part of aging, however.  One strategy that can reduce falls is to complete a Home Assessment .  Complete this checklist and learn more about staying safe at home.

Healthy Living with Chronic Pain (HLCP)
Research shows that the mind and the body are connected when it comes to pain. Emotions, feelings and thoughts directly influence how pain affects us. Pain management strategies will not necessarily eliminate your pain, but they will help you to better manage the pain so you can become more active. Healthy Living with Chronic Pain (HLCP) teaches these strategies and helps you determine which tools and techniques work best for you.

Join a HLCP workshop to explore ways to better manage your chronic pain. Take the time to make the changes you want to make. Build your "pain management toolbox", practice new concepts, and share your experience with others. Set your own goals and priorities. Week-by-week, you'll see what works for you and take steps toward healthier living.

Stepping On: Falls Prevention Workshop

It's estimated that one in three people age 65 and older fall at least once a year. Many of these falls result in broken bones and other disabilities, hospitalizations, and in some cases, even death. In addition to physical injury, victims of falls often lose their sense of confidence and become less independent. Falls among the elderly is a serious problem, especially right here in Wisconsin as our state ranks #2 for falls among older adults. The good news is that falls CAN be prevented!

Stepping On is a seven-week workshop using adult education to develop the knowledge and skills needed to help older adults prevent falls. It focuses on how strength and balancing exercises, medication management, home safety, footwear, vision, and mobility all play an important in fall prevention. The workshop:

- Increases awareness of fall risks
- Helps participants be more informed about the factors that contribute to their risk of falling
- Includes guest experts on certain topics
- Follows through on the use of prevention strategies after the workshop is completed
- Includes a follow-up "booster" class to review achievements
